The Great British Spring Clean - March 3-5, 2017

03 Mar 2017

The Great British Spring Clean is being launched today by 'Keep Britain Tidy', a charity that campaigns for and actively helps to promote cleaner streets, parks and beaches in Britain. This is an issue that affects all of us, LSBM students, staff and everyone else, as it directly impacts on our day-to-day experience of the world around us.

And YOU can help!

The campaign comes as Keep Britain Tidy reports that for the third year in a row councils have reported increases in the amount of illegal fly-tipping, with more than 936,000 separate incidents, including a 6.5% increase in household waste fly-tips.

The aims of the ongoing, national Keep Britain Tidy campaign are threefold:

1/ Eliminate litter - 'Litter is a symptom of a wider social decay and we must encourage people to value resources, respect others and cherish places.'

2/ Improve local places - 'The quality, management and accessibility of our streets, parks, beaches and other public spaces is critical to the vibrancy, health, happiness and resilience of communities.'

3/ Ending waste - 'We encourage people, businesses, organisations and public bodies to 'waste less and live more', helping local people work together to change their lifestyles, creating less waste and making better use of resources.'

Locally to LSBM, Camden Council also have an on-going dedicated Keeping Camden Streets Clean campaign that is currently running an active 'action' from 27 February to 10 March 2017. So, if you are interested in helping to clean up the streets around LSBM, then they would also love to hear from you. (That page also has details of how you can report local incidents of fly-tipping).

The Spring Clean campaign runs from March 3-5, 2017 and you can register to take part on their website here:
